HEC Adopts Point Of Presence Model for PERN Connectivity

Chairman HEC has approved Point-of-Presence Model for PERN Connectivity.  This model will allow rapid connectivity of Universities and Research Institutes to PERN.  Under this model PERN will maintain a Point-of-Presence (POP) at various accessible locations in the country.  HEC recognized Universities and Research Institutions will be allowed access to PERN through these POPs  provided the university implements the last mile access by itself.  Private Universities/Institutions could pay for the last mile out of their own funds, while Public Universities/Institutions can raise PC-1 for establishing last mile connectivity through NTC.  For details of this model Universities and Institutions may contact Dr. Tanveer ul Haq, Director (IT & PERN), Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, Tel: (051) 9040504, E-mail haq@hec.gov.pk
