Chairman's Message

It gives me great pleasure to know that the vision of Pakistan Education and Research Network (PERN) has advanced to providing significant services to the Higher Education Community of Pakistan. With the launch of PERN Website, the PERN Development Forum (PDF) and Communities of Interest (CoI) Project, we are now beginning to use PERN as a true instrument for collaborative research and learning.

The recent announcement by NTC and PTCL to provide local and international bandwidth to PERN connected universities at significantly low rates is a landmark decision, which will modernize the education system of our universities. PERN is now collaborating with international research networks like APAN (Asia Pacific Advanced Networks) to link our academics with researchers around the world. This is just the beginning of greater things to come.

Network infrastructure of PERN is in place. We are now focusing on applications and services that would enable distance learning, research, and teaching. I encourage universities to contribute either through ideas or through active participation in PDF to make PERN a modern educational information highway.

I am happy to launch the PERN Website and will be pleased to extend every possible help required in future. I wish you all success in this endeavor.
