Our link with PERN is not reliable. It is down many a times. What can be done about it?

The responsibility for PERN operation and maintenance is with NTC. Whenevre there is a problem with PERN link immediately report the matter to NTC at pern@ntc.net.pk with a copy to pern@hec.gov.pk . If the matter is not resolved in time report to NTC contact person of your region. Contact details are available under Trouble Reporting . If the matter is still not resolved report the matter to Director, PERN at haq@hec.gov.pk .

How can we increase the International Bandwidth on our link?

This has been a frequent request from universities. We are pleased to report that we have now made arrangement with NTC and PTCL under which the minimum bandwidth for each university will be increased from 128Kbps to 2Mbps. Infrastructure is currently being upgraded to provision this bandwidth. However, in the interim or later if a university requires to increase its bandwidth contact Director, PERN at haq@hec.gov.pk .

Can we do videoconferencing on PERN?

PERN has established a video reflector at the NTC headquarters, which allows multi-site videoconferencing on PCs. Send email to achattha@hec.gov.pk to get instructions for using the reflector service. Please report any problems with the service as it is still in trial phase. Be advised that there are some issues with NAT and firewall that have to be dealt with to implement any H.323 application.
